19th JINR-ISU Baikal Summer School on Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics

We are pleased to annonce the 19th JINR-ISU Baikal Summer School on Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics, which will take place from July 12 to 19, 2019, in the picturesque village Bol'shie Koty (Big Cats) on the shore of the Lake Baikal. 

We invite master and PhD students as well as early-career PhDs (postdocs) to attend the School. Exceptionally motivated undergraduates are also welcome. The working language of the school is English. The School offers a unique experience of full scientific immersion "Siberian style":

  • a week of lectures given by invited experts in experimental and theoretical HEP and astroparticle physics, 
  • plenty of time for questions and informal discussions with lecturers, 
  • intensive study sessions on topics of the lectures held in small groups, 
  • an opportunity to give a presentation or present a poster of own work,
  • friendly atmosphere, new contacts and friends, 
  • and finally the stunning views of the lake Baikal and Siberian Taiga.

Registration 

Registration will begin on March 1st, 2019 and will be done online via the Indico site of the Baikal Summer School 2019.

 

Organizational issues

Accommodation and Facilities

The accommodation booked for the School participants in Bolshie Koty offers a comfortable stay in wooden houses in wild nature. The conference hall has all necessary lecture equipment, and the coffee breaks are regularly served. Organizing it all in plain nature is a know-how of the Baikal school. You can take a look at the photos taken by the participants of the School 2017.

Please be aware that the internet connection at B. Koty is limited. The mobile calls are possible with MTS and Tele2 SIM-cards only.

Fee 

The school fee is 300 Euros (22 000 rub) for students and PhD students and 400 Euros (30 000 rub) for others participants. The fee covers full-board accommodation in Bolshie Koty, all meals, boat transportation from Irkutsk, welcome party and closing dinner, coffee breaks, and the excursion. The fee is to be paid in cash only. 

Unfortunately, we cannot offer financial support for students. 

Transportation

Bol'shie Koty is a small village in the Irkutsk region in Eastern Siberia. The nearest major airport is in Irkutsk. When planning your travel, please take into account the following:

  • The participants are expected to arrive to Irkutsk on July 12th. The usual route to Irkutsk from abroad is by plane via Moscow. The flights arrive to Irkutsk early in morning, so be prepared for a night flight. The two major companies which serve several flights per day are Aeroflot and S7 Airlines. Please notice that July is high season, so book your tickets well in advance.
  • The local organizers will pick you up at the airport, bring together, and organize for the boat Irkutsk-B.Koty in the afternoon. If you arrive in the morning, you will be met at the airport and brought directly to the boat. Please note: if you arrive very early, be prepared for a long wait for the boat. If you arrive on the previous day, you'll need to book a hotel in Irkutsk. This accommodation is on your charge. It can be booked via booking.com and similar websites; here are some recommended hotels in Irkutsk. if you need assistance with booking, please contact the organizers.
  • On the way back, the boat from B.Koty will arrive to Irkutsk in the late afternoon of July 19th. If your flight departs in the morning, you will need an overnight stay in Irkutsk, which will again be on your charge.
