GEANT4 PRACTICE

To participate in GEANT4 practice you could download and install ROOT (https://root.cern.ch/) and GEANT4 (https://geant4.web.cern.ch/geant4/) by your own or follow the items below:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTSwith LXDE, prototype of Virtualbox from osboxes.org, bzip2 was used.

Path to ROOT5 directory - /opt/sw/root_v5.34.36

Path to  examples - /opt/sw/root_v5.34.36/tutorials

Path to GEANT4 directory - /opt/sw/geant4.10.02.p01

Path to  examples - /opt/sw/geant4.10.02.p01/share/Geant4-10.2.1/examples or http://geant4.jinr.ru (in Russian)

To start work in ROOT5 run in console the script: source /opt/sw/root_v5.34.36/bin/thisroot.sh

To start work in GEANT4 run in console the script: source /opt/sw/geant4.10.02.p01/bin/geant4.sh

Notes:

  1. GEANT4 is compiled with the possibility to use several CPU for simulation. By default, 2 kernels are reserved for the virtual PC.
  2. GEANT4 is compiled with no QT4/QT5 cause of light version of LX_QT. Graphics is drawn in the window and it is controlled by text commands in terminal. To display graphics correctly, please, use graphical drivers sort of OGLI="Immediate drawing"  (!!! not OGL="Stored drawing"). Use vis.mac as example: /vis/open OGLI 600x600

Practice computer tools for cross sections and astroparticle observables

To prepare to and effectively  learn from "Computer tools for cross sections and astroparticle observables"
lecture by Prof. Alexander Belyaev we very strongly encourage you to install and become familiar
with the following packages

1. CalcHEP

which includes instructions on the CalcHEP installation and resolving related problems

2.  LanHEP package

the installation is pretty straightforward

Micromegas package

4. General remarks -- the above packages require Linux operating system,
c-compiler and X11 system (package and header sources, which usually included
in the Linux system).
In case you have Windows operating system,
you can still install the above packages: you can  install vmware
(see http://www.vmware.com/ ) or analogous  packages which allows
you to install virtual operating system on you laptop or PC. There is free version of vmware.
Using it, you can install virtual Linux OS on your Windows OS which will be fully functional.
